Titikakasee / Lake Titikaka

Lake Titikaka is at the border of Peru and Bolivia at 3800m, which makes it quite cold as soon as the sun is gone. I was on two different kind of island here on lake Titikaka. The first one were floating islands. The indeginous people build islands out of floating reed and they also build their houses out of it. The even have electricity through solar cells. The other island was a normal Island called Island of the Sun. Supposedly the sun was born here. It looks like at the Mediterranean Sea, only the landscape is scanter and the animal are lamas (also etible, but very chewy). Because of the altitude the air is very clear and extremely blue.

I did four-day-treck of the last part of the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. That was more than 40km. We started at about 2000m and passed two passes (4000m and 4200m). The first day was fairly easy. It was 6hrs of hiking but not too steep. The second day was a real challenge. We passed both passes on that day, but I was in way better shape then I expected. I was second to reach the highest pass. Usually the calculate 2.5 hrs but I only needed 1h 35min. The thrid day was unbelievable and made worth all the hard work of the second day. We hiked at about 3500m along a mountain, had blue sky and a great view on steep valleys coverd in could and rain forest and a little further away there were 7000m high peaks. On the fourth day we only hiked 2 hours to Machu Picchu which is one of the lost cities of the Incas. While us touristes were proud to have done the Inca trail, our hike is nothing in relation to the work the porter do. The hide the same way and don`t need half as much time while carrying 25kg!!

Colca Canyon

The Colca Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world. On the frist day we wanted to see the condors fly at sunrise. But the took their time and didn´t fly until 8am. Bastards. I was so cold from waiting in the wind, that I climbed into my sleeping bag to keep warm ;-) On the first day we hiked 16km distance and 1200m in hight to the bottom of the canyon and on the next day we hiked the same hight difference in 5km long switchbacks back up. That was quite tough. But I made it in 2h25min. We had donkey carry our backpacks back up ;-). We spent the night in an oasis at the bottom of the canyon. They even had a pool there, but our hut was made out of bamboo with the wind blowing through and the floor inside was only dirt.

Wueste in Huacachina / Desert in Huacachina

Huacachina is a little Oasis in the desert about 4 hrs south of Lima. The desert here is just how you always imagined a desert, loads of sand dunes. I made an trip with dune buggis and went sand boarding. That is like snow boarding, just on sand. At night we watched the sun setting on the desert.
